If you previously wanted to switch your pickups or replace electronics for higher quality, more durable components, you’d have to learn how to solder. Learning how to melt solder with a hot soldering iron about 450 degrees right next to your beautiful guitar finish isn’t too popular. Not only the risk of damaging your guitar’s finish, but damaging the components themselves! And that’s before troubleshooting the electrical problems that may occur too. Needless to say, there’s quite a number of guitarists who choose not to solder. This leaves these people with two options – being stuck with whatever stock electronics come in their guitar, or taking them to an expensive guitar tech to get them swapped out. The latest addition to. Is this Free-way 10-way switch, modified TBX equipped version of the ever popular Stratocaster Neck/Bridge Blend setup. As is often the case, this Listing resulted from a customers particular specification request, for a custom order: It initially had a Superswitch and Fender S-1 volume to facilitate the required Series/parallel switching, but along the line I received a Message to say he’d have spec’d the Free-way switch had he known about it sooner. As I’d hate for a customer to be disappointed with anything from The Rhoadhouse , and as I actually had a couple of the Free-way 10-ways in stock, I revised the spec. The Free-way switch is effectively two 5-way switches, inside a common enclosure, operated by one lever. The’standard’ configuration supplied with the switch is for a’ Series / Parallel’ setup, with one 5-way being’standard’ Strat. Switching, and the other 5-way being the enhanced Series/Parallel. I won’t go into a long list of the switching, instead I’ve included a screenshot from the supplied pdf wiring instructions in the accompanying photo’s.. As the inclusion of the modified TBX precludes the wiring of the Fezz Parka tone mod. As in the other, lesser equipped versions, a treble bleed is used instead. CTS or Bourns master volume, T B X master tone, and that third’ Neck / Bridge Blend’ pot. Plus all three together. M Position 3 is still Middle by itself.. Then, of course, you have the nifty. WHAT IT IS : New from The Rhoadhouse in November 2015 came this COMPLETE, unrivalled Stratocaster DROP-IN upgrade – a FULLY LOADED pickguard incorporating the same Fezz Parka Tone/Blend mod’s as the small shielding control plate we also offer… WHAT YOU GET : Starting with a brand new 1963 > Present’Standard’ Stratocaster pickguard, a full-size die-cut aluminium shielding plate is added, then a matched set of’ Texas Blues’ hand-wound in the UK single-coils from Axesrus are hard-wired in… Rather than me list an’anecdotal’ description of these fantastic pickups, copy and paste the link below into a new tab to find out all about them, listen to the sound clips and read the glowing reviews… Then exactly the same 5-way setup, featuring master Volume/Tone, the second tone pot. Being replaced with a no-load Blend Pot, as featured in my other Strat listing is hard-wired in to give the following switching options; WHAT IT DOES : (1) Neck………………… Add Bridge with Blend Pot. (2) Neck & Middle….. Add Bridge (3) Middle (4) Middle & Bridge… Add Neck (5) Bridge………………. Add Neck As you can see, with the Blend Pot. In the’no load’ position, you have a standard 5-way Strat setup. Wind the Blend fully on though, and you have the added advantage of the Tele-style Bridge & Neck in Positions (1) & (5), and all three together at Positions (2) & (4) – how cool is that! An incredibly versatile 7-way Strat. That behaves just like a standard Strat. Exactly when you want it to – and those pickups are about as good as you are going to get when you are searching for the best Strat. From Rory Gallagher to Mark Knopfler, via SRV,’The Malice From Dallas’ do it all… This being a Rhoadhouse – equipped custom special we just had to get at least one solderless connector in there! So I’ve wired in a single connector block between the selector switch and the volume just for the output socket: this means you have NO soldering to do in order to complete your build/upgrade. Simply remove your complete OEM pickguard, cut the wires to the output socket and bridge claw ground at the pot’s, drop in the new Rhoadhouse pickguard, clip the three wires you just cut to the solderless connector, screw down the pickguard, re-string, tune, and away you go, job done! How easy is that! NB : As with all my hardware, I keep nothing’on the shelf,’ it is ALL, without exception, handbuilt to order. That way, if you, the customer, have any specific alterations you may like to request, they can be incorporated into the build. This is hand built custom hardware, NOT mass-produced factory OEM, and as such it MAY sometimes take a little longer to dispatch than I would prefer, especially during busy and Holiday periods, so your patience and understanding would be greatly appreciated. ALL Axesrus pickups are hand-wound in their own workshop here in the UK, not rebadged Artek hardware from Korea. I can honestly say their work is unbeatable at any price, and their Customer Service is second to none. It is a standard’64 onwards template, which will fit 99% of American and MiM bodies, and the screw holes will all line up: on many Strat- style bodies (including the Bullet/Affinity range) not all of the holes will line up, so you’ll have to make some new ones… Anything more than that, you’re laughing, anything less and you’d need to remove some wood – something I have no problem with myself, but not everyone wants to do that, so make sure you get a steel rule in there before you order The neck cut-out is standard Fender Strat, so if you were fitting this to a Fender Strat- style body with a slightly wider heel you would have to file it to fit. It’s also a measure of just how much confidence I have in my own work. It is no idle boast to say you could fit this to a cheap’n’cheerful budget Strat. Copy and it would knock spots off any Squier, MiM/MiJ Fender, and many a Fender USA costing significantly more than what it would cost you to find this out for yourself! So, reassuringly expensive this may be but if you consider just what you are getting for your hard-earned cash, then you’ll suss you’re actually looking at a pretty shrewd investment. Yes, I’ll freely admit I’m biased but you won’t find a better setup at many times the price… However, I make no provision for Import Duty, etc, so these are entirely the Customers own responsibilty where incurred. As I always point out, all our products are individually hand made to order that’s how I keep down the costs to pass onto you, the customer… I can promise you will not be disappointed.
